President Joe Biden’s campaign raised more than $27 million across Thursday, the day of the first presidential debate, and Friday, according to a campaign official.
The campaign is looking to highlight fundraising bright spots even as angst grows among some in the donor class following the president’s poor performance at the source debate.
The president is expected to speak at two fundraisers in the Hamptons in New York and one in Red Bank, New Jersey, this afternoon.
Barry Rosenstein, the host of one of the fundraisers in the Hamptons, told source he is expecting more than 200 attendees, and he said more donations for the event came in Friday morning after the debate.
The two-day fundraising haul announced Saturday comes on the heels of Biden raising roughly $40 million over five days earlier this month, which included major fundraisers with former President Barack Obama in Los Angeles and former President Bill Clinton in Virginia.
Even before his shaky debate performance, Biden was facing a key fundraising test at month’s end, after raising $85 million between his campaign and joint Democratic fundraising committees in May.
Donald Trump raised $141 million that same month, eroding the financial advantage Biden had for most of the cycle.
