Former President Donald Trump's upcoming fundraising dinner in Palm Beach, Florida, has sparked controversy as his campaign aims to catch up with President Biden in the 2024 presidential cash race. The event, set to be held at the home of billionaire John Paulson, is co-chaired by prominent figures such as Robert Bigelow, Linda McMahon, Steve Wynn, John Catsimatidis, and Kelly Loeffler. With ticket prices ranging from $250,000 to $814,600, the guest list is expected to include around 100 attendees.
The Biden campaign's senior spokesperson, Sarafina Chitika, criticized the event, accusing Trump of inviting 'racists' and 'extremists' to dinner. Chitika stated that Trump's choice of guests reflects his priorities for a potential second term, alleging that he would prioritize the interests of wealthy donors over those of the American people.
Meanwhile, the Biden re-election campaign announced impressive fundraising figures, having raised over $187 million in the first quarter of 2024. The campaign highlighted its grassroots support, with 96% of donations being under $200 and over 1.1 million donors contributing more than 1.9 million times. The campaign also noted a significant increase in sustaining donors, surpassing 212,000 supporters who have pledged monthly contributions totaling over $5.2 million.
With $192 million in cash on hand, the Biden campaign emphasized the historic nature of its fundraising efforts at this stage of the election cycle. In contrast, the Trump campaign anticipates raising over $40 million at the Palm Beach fundraiser, positioning itself for a competitive financial race leading up to the 2024 election.
