Joe Biden concluded his more than 50-year political career on Monday, vowing to continue the fight as he bid farewell to the presidency and headed to California to relax with his family. This came after watching his successor, Republican President Donald Trump, promise to reverse the policies of the previous administration.
Prior to the transfer of power, Biden extended courtesies to Trump, welcoming him and his wife, Melania, to the White House for a traditional meet-and-greet. The two then traveled together to the Capitol, where Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, while Biden sat stoically in the front row during Trump's address.
Meanwhile, the White House staff began clearing out Biden's belongings to make way for Trump's return, including redecorating the Oval Office for the new president's use. Trump wasted no time in signing a series of executive orders after taking office.
Following the inauguration, Biden expressed gratitude to his staff, acknowledging their contributions and emphasizing the importance of resilience in the face of challenges. He reassured them that despite leaving office, they were not abandoning the fight and encouraged them to stay engaged.
In a lighthearted moment, Biden chuckled at Trump's speech and remarked that there was still much work to be done. He then made a humorous gesture before departing with the first lady for California, where they planned to spend time with family.
