Biden Administration Announces 0M Military Aid To Ukraine

U.S. President Biden visits Israel amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas

The Biden administration has revealed plans to provide Ukraine with an extra $500 million in military aid as part of a security package. This decision was made prior to President-elect Trump taking office, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announcing the aid during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Austin and Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of ongoing support from the incoming Trump administration in Ukraine's conflict against Russia. Austin warned that if Russia were to annex Ukraine, it would only embolden further aggression from autocratic regimes.

The latest security assistance includes missiles for fighter jets, F-16 support equipment, armored bridging systems, small arms, ammunition, spare parts, and communications equipment. This aid is being expedited through the presidential drawdown authority, utilizing U.S. stockpiles for quick delivery.

This marks the seventy-fourth tranche of equipment provided by the Biden administration to Ukraine since August 2021, with approximately $3.85 billion remaining for future arms shipments. Zelenskyy urged continued U.S. support, highlighting the importance of maintaining defense coalitions.

The coalition supporting Ukraine, including the U.S., has increased weapons production following the Ukraine conflict, which exposed inadequacies in stockpiles for major land warfare. The U.S. has contributed around $66 billion in aid since February 2022, with the majority already delivered to Ukraine.

Austin stressed the significance of not retreating in the face of aggression, stating that Ukraine's survival is crucial for the security of Europe, the United States, and the world at large.
