The Biden administration has announced the distribution of an additional $5.8 billion for water infrastructure projects nationwide. This funding, derived from a key legislative achievement, will support projects in all 50 states, bringing the total amount awarded for water infrastructure initiatives to $22 billion.
The source of this financial support is the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden during his first year in office. This significant investment in water infrastructure is a cornerstone of the administration's agenda.
Key figures such as Vice President Kamala Harris and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan are set to unveil the plans at an event in Pittsburgh. The focus of the infrastructure law is to allocate over $50 billion towards upgrading the country's water infrastructure, marking it as the most substantial investment in clean water in American history.
The announcement includes $3.2 billion for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which will facilitate improvements to water treatment plants, distribution systems, and lead pipe replacements. Additionally, $1 billion will be allocated to seven major rural water projects, with another $1 billion earmarked to support drinking water initiatives in the Great Lakes region.
