Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed on Thursday that President Joe Biden “won’t even talk about the fact that Americans are still being held” in Gaza.
However, the claim made by Pompeo is false. President Biden has addressed the issue of Americans held in Gaza on multiple occasions since October. On May 31, Biden mentioned that American hostages would be released in the first phase of a proposed deal with Israel and Hamas, emphasizing the importance of bringing them home.
Back on October 25, Biden stated that his administration was actively working with regional partners to secure the release of hostages, including American citizens who were left behind. He reiterated this commitment on November 26, highlighting the successful release of an Israeli American girl and expressing determination to continue efforts until all hostages are returned to their families.
Most recently, during the NATO Summit in DC last week, Biden discussed the broader issue of hostages, emphasizing the US's efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, bring the hostages home, and work towards peace and stability in the Middle East.
It is evident from these statements that President Biden has not ignored the plight of Americans held in Gaza, contrary to Pompeo's claims. Biden's consistent remarks and actions demonstrate a commitment to resolving the issue and ensuring the safe return of all hostages.
