BGT's Flintz & Taylor issue heartbreaking statement after forgetting final lyrics

Britain's Got Talent star Flintz has issued a statement after an emotional performance in the final saw him forget his lyrics.

Flintz & Taylor were judge Alesha Dixon's golden buzzer act and many tipped the duo for the win.

But in a heartbreaking performance during which the occasion got the better of the 22-year-old, Flintz sadly lost his nerve.

The hip hop rap/piano duet - who met online during lockdown - performed an original song for their final slot, but Flintz was in bits after forgetting large sections of the verse.

Taking to Instagram to address the incident, he said: "Just want to thank everyone for all your support and kind messages throughout mine and T4ylor journey.

"Yesterday emotions were so high, wanted to make sure I delivered the best performance but the emotions got the better of me. But this ain't the end for us!!"

After his performance the rapper broke down on stage, but was quickly consoled by judge Amanda Holden.

Wiping away her own tears, the mum-of-two told the rapper: "It doesn't matter, all your emotions got in there. What we need is authenticity and truth and that is what you do."

While media mogul Simon Cowell added: "I thought this was your best performance so far. Who gives a s**t if you forget lyrics?

"The most important thing is that it reminded me of how much this means to you, and the song had a great hook on it. Don't worry about it, it happens to me too."

Fans of the rappers also leapt to their defence.

One posted: "Flintz & Taylor are a great act. The guy managed to keep rapping and continued to perform even when he probably wanted to run away."

While another predicted "Whatever happens Flintz and Taylor deserve to be signed they're amazing."

However some viewers were more harsh, with one quipping: ""Sorry for being unsympathetic, but this is the final. Forgetting the words is a no-no!"

While another mused: "I do feel bad for the lad there don’t get me wrong, but people shouldn’t be celebrating failures #bgt."

The winner of the smash-hit show was eventually revealed as Axel Blake.

The comedian took home the top gong during the ITV talent show final, beating the likes of Tom Ball and Jamie Leahey and bagging himself a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
