BGT judge Amanda Holden's raciest outfits and dress that broke complaints record

Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden is known for pushing boundaries with her racy outfits and the 51-year-old has said this series will be no different.

The mum-of-two said she draws her fashion inspiration from people such as Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue. She said BGT is the perfect show to "take risks" and said she hates the phrase "dressing for your age".

Despite sparking controversy - and even complaints - in the past, the star said she has no plans to tone down her looks this year. In 2017, one gown saw her rack up a record-breaking 663 complaints to Ofcom, the Mirror reports.

The TV and radio star refuses to let this bother her. Ahead of the latest series she said: "I'm thinking more rubber - I enjoyed wearing latex in the auditions, so I'm thinking more latex, more sweating in the lives." Amanda also insisted that her mum Judith Harrison told her that she "looked better than girls half her age".

Amanda said: "Times have changed and I don’t feel anyone should feel pressure to dress for your age. It’s all about body positivity and feeling good." Here we take a look at some of the dresses that sparked fury with viewers and even led to complaints.

Julian Macdonald gown - 2017

It was an £11,000 gown that saw Amanda rack up a record-breaking 663 Ofcom complaints, as the judge took to the stage a Julian McDonald number with a plunging neckline. Most of Amanda's chest and stomach could be seen as the outfit dropped to her navel.

Despite looking incredible, Amanda's choice wasn't a popular one and it amassed record-breaking 663 Ofcom complaints. But Amanda refused to pay attention to the haters who took a disliking to the dress.

She said: "That dress was hysterical – it was Julien Macdonald. I had bits of fish wire underneath my breasts trying to hold that together. But, look, I'm from a small-chest family, plus you know I'm 48 years old. It's all quite laughable, but all everyone seems to talk about. It's been called another national crisis – but, oh no, I will not be covered up."

At the time, one furious fan tweeted: "So Amanda is effectively topless on Britain's Got Talent", while another said it was "totally NOT suitable". Ofcom decided not to investigate the complaints.

Spiderweb dress - 2019

A few years later Amanda stepped out in a lace dress with a spider web covering one of her breasts. As well as the sheer dress revealing half of her torso and side of her hip, the gown had a flower pattern running up the legs, covering her from below the navel.

Ofcom got nine complaints over this Nicolas Jebran dress by viewers who deemed it "inappropriate" for a family show. However, the watchdog decided against investigating the matter.

Bold in blue

In the years that followed she had another two outfits complained about, with one having some fans claiming they could see Amanda's nipples. She had chosen a stunning cut out deep blue dress in 2019, with material that covered each breast.

The frock racked up an impressive 235 complaints, with many viewers suggesting her chest wasn't properly covered. She took to social media to defend herself: "Mmmm, really? Who has nipples this close to their cleavage?

"FYI, a boned corset dented the girls all night. Surely there are more terrible and important things to write about."

Another dress she wore in October 2020 received hundreds more complaints. Amanda had opted for a lowcut midnight blue dress, which also had a daring leg split. Ofcom received 230 complaints about the outfit, which caused Amanda to hit back.

Amanda later joked on This Morning that she'd be covering up for the next show, following the complaints. Presenter Eamonn Holmes said: "What are we going to see tomorrow night, what's going to be on show?" Amanda quipped: "Oh, I'm wearing a polo neck with sleeves down to here (her wrists) and up to there (her neck)."
