BGT: Amanda Holden's marriage, unexpected career move and near-death experience

Amanda Holden is set to return to our screens tonight.

Britain's Got Talent will be back on air, after taking a break last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hosts Amanda, Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon will be back on the judging panel as talented hopefuls compete to win a spot in the Royal Variety show.

During the ITV show's downtime, Amanda has been keeping busy as she has been spotted taking her bins out and mowing the lawn wearing ball gowns. She also works on Heart Breakfast show most mornings bringing more entertainment to the nation.

Amanda has been in the public eye ever since she first shot to stardom as a contestant on Blind Date in 1991. The 51-year-old is a well-known figure with appearances on shows for BBC, ITV and Channel 4. The multi-talented TV personality even recently ventured into a music career as she recorded a studio album titled Songs from My Heart - as The Daily Star reports.

Away from the world of showbiz, Amanda is happily married to record producer Chris Hughes. The couple first met in 2002, just months after Amanda separated from her then husband Les Dennis.

Amanda had been married to the comedian since 1995 - and their turbulent romance regularly made the headlines as she had a high-profile affair with Neil Morrissey. Chris is actually the son of Les' agent, Mike Hughes - and the pair began dating a year after her split.

The couple decided to tie the knot in December 2008 and they got married at a fancy Somerset members club called Babington House. Their first daughter Lexi was almost two years old when she attended the fairytale ceremony, where former Formula One racing driver David Coulthard was best man.

Amanda confessed to the Mirror how their relationship remains stronger than ever even after years of marriage. She said: "Oh god I really fancy Chris. We'll be eating dinner in a restaurant, he'll go to the loo, then I'll look up, catch a glimpse of a man and think, 'he's fit' and then realise, 'that's my husband! I still fancy him!"

She spilled the secrets behind their long-lasting spark in an interview with HELLO! magazine in 2019. She added: "Chris is very funny and errs on the side of lightness. We can make jokes out of any situation throughout the best and darkest times of our lives.

"He's rubbish at romance, but he's there for the solid things – such as keeping my car clean and making sure I relax. He's a proper bloke who looks after me. I'm a strong, opinionated woman, but he helps steer the Mandy ship."

The couple share two daughters together, and have had to remain strong together throughout tragedy while building their happy family. Amanda suffered a tragic miscarriage in 2010 - and the stillbirth of their late son Theo at seven months into the preganacy in 2011.

Amanda opened up about the moment Theo passed during a chat on the BBC's Dear NHS Superstars special. She said: "Luckily for us, an obstetrician was coming past and Jackie [midwife] said to the obstetrician, 'please can you go in, I can't hear the patient's baby's heartbeat', and then I heard this guttural screaming.

"It was the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to me because it was me. I didn't know I was doing it. I had no control over myself, I thought it was another person making the noise. All these women were holding me, calming me down. I forgot entirely that I'd have to get the baby out and I'd have to give birth to our son."

Amanda and Chris welcomed their second daughter Hollie in 2012, but Amanda encountered difficulties during the birth - as she haemorrhaged and flatlined for 40 seconds. The TV personality recovered from the complications - and she now leads a happy life with her family in their gorgeous home in Surrey.

Britain's Got Talent returns on ITV and ITV Hub on Saturday April 16 at 8pm
