Beyond Paradise star teases Death In Paradise return amid BBC spin-off success

Kris Marshall has spilled on a possible return to Death In Paradise, amid the success of BBC's Beyond Paradise.

The actor plays DI Humphrey Goodman in the BBC show, which is set on the fictional island of Saint Marie, and after a few series at the helm, it was time for Humphrey to head home with his new love Martha.

Beyond Paradise picks up in the fictional village of Shipton Abbot, where Humphrey and Martha have started a new life, whilst he is busy stopping the criminals of the sleepy village dead in their tracks.

Now Kris has opened up about a possible return for Humphrey to Saint Marie.

Could Kris return to Death In Paradise as Humphrey? (BBC/Red Planet Pictures/Denis Guyenon)

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "I would say there's always a possibility of something like that.

"I’d love to bring them all back, really, for different reasons. I had such a wonderful time. I think it'd be awesome to have all four detectives in one show or one episode together, as a meta thing where their worlds collide."

Kris previously expressed how much of a "joy" it was to get back into his "crumpled jacket".

Speaking about reprising the role, he said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

He's now in charge of the Shipton Abbot police department (BBC)

"So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK. Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Executive producer Tim Key added: "We always knew there were more Humphrey Goodman tales to be told and with the brilliant Tony Jordan leading the writing team, bringing all the Death In Paradise spirit, humour and joy to this brand new, original series, we can’t wait to get started. While Humphrey is used to contending with fiendishly clever puzzles, the biggest challenge of all is navigating his private life and finding out what happens beyond the ‘happy ever after'.

"We’re delighted to be working with Kris and Sally again and creating a little bit of Paradise in the UK."

It comes as two more series of Death In Paradise has been confirmed including a feature length Christmas special.
