Beyoncé has reflected on the past year with a new video and photo album showing never-before-seen moments shared between herself and her family.
This weekend, in celebration of the arrival of 2021, the singer shared her annual year-end video to her Instagram, which features her and husband Jay Z’s three children, Blue Ivy, eight, and three-year-old twins Sir and Rumi, who are often kept off of social media.
“Cheers to a New Year Beyhive!” Beyoncé captioned the four-minute clip. “2020 divided us and united us. Most could not see loved ones and we felt too many losses, but we were united by our humanity.
“This year for me has been about celebrating joy, chasing happiness, and living in love. As we all look forward and pray for new beginnings, my wish for you is that you honor yourself and those you love.
Celebrate that you are an important individual who contributes to our beautiful collective.”
The Ivy Park founder concluded the message wishing her more than 159m followers a “better and brighter 2021”.
In the video, which begins with footage from a 2020 New Year’s party, the Lion King star includes never-before-seen images and clips of the twins, including one which sees Rumi dancing to Beyoncé’s collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, Savage Remix, while sitting alongside her mother in a golf cart.
During the clip, Beyoncé asks the two-year-old if she had a good summer, prompting Rumi to nod her head yes in response.
The video also includes footage of notable moments such as Blue Ivy’s narration of Hair Love, and Beyoncé’s dedication to helping Americans and Black-owned businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic, with the clip concluding: “Give yourself permission to experience joy. Moments with the ones you love are precious."
On Beyoncé’s website, the Formation singer shared additional images from her past year, including photos taken on her 38th birthday in September.
In one picture, she can be seen blowing out candles on her birthday cake surrounded by Blue Ivy, Sir and Rumi.
Another photo sees Beyoncé and Blue Ivy posing for a selfie together while wearing matching bathing suits, with a later photo showing Beyoncé lying in the sand next to the twins.
The previously unseen photos of the family come after Beyoncé told British Vogue in October that she has given herself permission to “focus on my joy” after years of dedicating herself to her career.
“I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on building my legacy and representing my culture the best way I know how. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy,” she said.
