Beyoncé just had her 41st birthday party — and it looked more like the Met Gala

It’s Beyoncé’s world and we’re all living in it — it is a fact we have always known. But seeing the Renaissance star and queen of pop celebrate her 41st birthday in Bel Air this weekend has truly cemented it.

The party has been described as “one of the most star-studded events of the year, or perhaps ever.” A bold statement, but looking at the slew of celebrities caught by paparazzi on their way in, you wouldn’t question it.

Those in attendance included Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, as well as some other single name celebrities (Drake, Zendaya, Lizzo, Adele) to keep Beyoncé company.

The 41-year-old, whose full name is Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, was actually born on September 4, but held her belated birthday do this weekend at a mansion in Bel Air, Los Angeles.

The arrival of guests felt less like your standard birthday bash entrance — turning up a bit tipsy after necking two G&Ts on the Tube — and more like the red carpet of the Met Gala, with stars snapped emerging from cars in their furs, covering elaborate, bejewelled outfits underneath, and shielding their faces from the flashing lights.

The theme is rumoured to be “disco”, in keeping with the singer’s latest album Renaissance, which reverberates with stonking sounds of house, disco and ballroom (that’s gay/trans ballroom, not like, Strictly ballroom) on each and every track.

Not everyone loved the theme, though. Thanks to sneak peeks courtesy of a paparazzo or two — or twenty — the looks sported by party goers have been circulated and roasted to the same level as a red carpet fashion review.

One fan said: “What was the theme of Beyoncé’s birthday party? Because everyone looks a mess and this picture of offset is taking me OUT.”

Despite the theme seemingly being “disco”, rapper, Cardi B baby daddy and one third of rap group Migos, Offset, decided to wear a full Michael Jackson costume to the event. Fans were left confused by this choice, saying: “Beyoncé girl, what was the theme??”

One person offered the alternative explanation that the theme was in fact 70s, and not disco, but Beyoncé had a 70s “Soul Train” themed birthday party five years ago, and we have a feeling Queen Bey isn’t a theme repeater.

Megan Fox later cleared up any confusion, captioning her Instagram post: “The theme was roller disco.” Phew.

Other elements of the party have been kept tightly under wraps, and no pictures of the birthday girl have actually surfaced as of yet.

Jay Z was caught in a couple of blurry paparazzi pics, but only on his own. TMZ reports that guests started arriving at the Bel Air mansion at around 10.30pm, and eventually spotted leaving around 3am.

Drake was rumoured to have only stayed for 15 minutes, with his car spotted arriving, then picking him up and leaving, in very quick succession.

In the end, our only hope for a shot of Beyoncé’s birthday look is if there’s a classic Beyoncé Instagram photo dump: days late, with around six pictures, mostly in the same pose, half of them seemingly taken by Blue Ivy. That’s just her way.
