Beyoncé is expected to perform at a campaign rally in support of Kamala Harris tomorrow, according to three sources who are connected to the planning of the event.
This comes after months of speculation over whether Beyoncé would break her silence on the upcoming presidential election. The pop star is yet to issue an endorsement and hasn’t addressed which way she’ll be voting come November 5.
But the big reveal (although it’s hardly a shock) is set to come via a surprise appearance at Harris’s campaign rally in Houston on Friday. The 43-year-old Texan singer was born and raised in Houston and regularly references the city in her lyrics.
She becomes the latest celebrity to endorse Harris’s campaign for president, following in the footsteps of Charli xcx, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.
Beyoncé’s ultra private nature has left many wondering whether she would eventually endorse Harris. In the last presidential election, the singer waited until the eve of the election to endorse Joe Biden via a post on Instagram.
And could a performance be in store for fans? Harris has already proved herself to be a big fan of the Beyoncé song “Freedom,” using it as her walk-on music at rallies.
However, fake rumours of a Beyoncé performance have spread before. It was whispered that the 32-time Grammy winner would perform on the final day of the Democratic National Convention in August, only for this to be proved false... when she never showed up.
Beyoncé famously sang the national anthem for former President Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2008, and performed at a rally in Ohio in the final few days of then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016.
Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker became one of the latest celebrities to endorse Harris yesterday, when she posted on Instagram explaining her position, including the reasoning “...for a certain childless cat lady I play on TV.”
The comment is in reference to Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance’s statement that Democratic politicians are a "bunch of childless cat ladies with miserable lives". Taylor Swift also referenced this comment in her endorsement of Harris, proudly defending her position as a childless cat lady.
