Califronia has been rocked by multiple mass shootings since the beginning of the year.
First on as a group celebrated Lunar New Year at a dancehall in Monterey, a gunman burst in and opened fire with a machine pistol.
Eleven were killed with a further nine wounded.
Gunman Huu Can Tran, 72, then went to another dancehall down the road but a quick moving employee managed to disarm him .
Tran later shot himself in his van as officers discovered his body on Sunday morning.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the massacre.
Luna said Tran used a registered semiautomatic handgun when he died by suicide.
Tran, who was of Vietnamese descent and lived in Hong Kong, had been in the US for seven or eight years.
Mr Luna said: "We have not been able to establish a connection between the suspect and any of the victims thus far."
Just days later seven people were killed in two separate shootings at farms in Half Moon Bay, in California.
Four people were found dead at a first farm on Cabrillo Highway with another person rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
And shortly afterwards a further three people were discovered dead at a nearby farm.
The suspected gunman was first reported to be on the run with police hunting for a man in a red SUV and people were told to avoid Highway 92 between Highway 1 and 35.
And now the alleged shooter, Zhao Chunli, 67, who is believed to have acted alone, has been taken into custody, police have confirmed.
