'Better than Xhaka', 'Wrong personality' - Arsenal fans split on Paul Pogba transfer opportunity

Paul Pogba is reportedly set to leave Manchester United in the summer on a free transfer and he's understandably garnering a lot of attention from some of Europe's top clubs.

According to Sky Sports News, Pogba is attracting plenty of interest with his contract at Manchester United winding down this summer, with two Premier League clubs among those keen on his services. Although there's been nothing official to suggest that Arsenal are one of the teams interested in signing him, the news has sparked rumours that they might just be closely monitoring his situation.

The Gunners need to strengthen in the central midfield area in the summer after showing a real lack of depth in the position this season. Pogba's talent is undeniable, but the 29-year-old's devotion and application has constantly been under critique since his then world-record return to Old Trafford in 2016.

Now, Arsenal fans are split on whether signing him will be a good thing for the club. Take a look at some of what's been said on social media site Twitter below.

@1NilArsenal said: "I like Pogba, but I think he’s the wrong personality for this team. It’s tricky though, as he’d be a great fit in terms of skills."

@Elstacko5 said: "Arsenal should be all over Pogba I cannot lie."

@kieran21529888 said: "No way arsenal fans are saying they wouldn’t replace Xhaka with pogba."

@MoG84042826 said: "Part of me wants pogba at Arsenal. He could do madness for us."

@Jordthegeez said: "Genuinely i'd take him at arsenal. I feel Arteta could get him back to his Juve days. Him and Partey would be an excellent duo in midfield as well with odegaard or smith-rowe just in front i think could be devastating for other teams."

@PaBLO1759 said: "This ain't 2019 no more. Arteta doesn't work with sentiments. He's 29. Why on earth would Xhaka be replaced by a 29 year old. Nah, this ain't FIFA."

@AddistudentJack said: "Pogba works well for Deschamps... but I am not sure how he will turn out for arsenal should the club sign him."

@AF_Sualihu said: "Who needs Pogba's ego at Arsenal?"

@Markafc87 said: "Pogba is better than Xhaka it’s not even close. He replaces Xhaka role not Partey."

As things stand, a transfer is entirely hypothetical but making a move for Pogba would certainly be a gamble. Mikel Arteta may find the missing ingredient to his Gunners project by signing the Frenchman, or he may well just create another issue that will need solving.
