A young man has been shot dead in an east London park as police launch their second murder investigation in just over 24 hours.
The victim, in his early 30s, was found collapsed in Weavers Fields, off Wilmot Street, Bethnal Green at about 8.27pm on Tuesday.
Police were alerted by London Ambulance Service paramedics already on scene.
Officers, including firearms units, and London’s Air Ambulance attended.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, sadly the male could not be saved.
Weavers Fields is the largest open space in Tower Hamlets and popular with families attracted to its facilities including an adventure playground, football pitch and outdoor gym.
One resident told the Standard the shooting happened behind his home.
33-year-old Imtiaz Shams said: “I was coming back home and my friends messaged to say they heard five loud bangs.
“They were sure it was shots so I didn’t go through the park.”
Mr Shams came across a couple, including a woman crying, as he approached his home.
He explained: “They were taking care of each other. When I said ‘be careful there has been a shooting,’ they said ‘It was our friend’.”
Mr Jalloh was discovered in New Union Close at 4.15pm on Monday.
None of the killings are believed to be linked or connected to the ongoing manhunt for Kamar Williams, 33.
Williams, from the Isle of Dogs, is wanted over the murder of 53-year-old bus driver Derek Thomas in Stoke Newington on July 30.
The Metropolitan Police said the latest homicide victim’s next of kin are yet to be informed.
A spokesman said: “A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
“Officers remain in the area and a crime scene is in place.
“At this early stage there have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Vicky Tunstall, policing lead in Tower Hamlets and Hackney, said: “Tragically, another young man has lost his life to violence and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.
“Tackling violent crime remains our absolute focus, but we need to work together with communities to achieve this. If anyone has any information that may help the investigation, no matter how insignificant you think it is, then please do not hesitate to my colleagues from Specialist Crime or Crimestoppers anonymously.
“Sadly, this is the second murder in Tower Hamlets in a 30-hour period. I know this is extremely concerning but I would like to reassure the community that there will be an increased police presence on the borough, and I would urge anyone who has any concerns or information about this heinous crime to approach them.”
Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, leading the probe for the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, added: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and I would like to appeal for the public’s help.
“I am sure there are people who have seen or heard something which could assist us.”
Meanwhile, a teenager who shot an innocent 15-year-old boy in an unprovoked attack has been jailed for 11 years.
Kamaree Jeffrey, 19, was riding an e-bike and wearing a balaclava, when he approached a group of youngsters in Garden Place, Haggerston on May 25 last year, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
The boy was taken to an east London hospital with a leg injury that required surgery but thankfully wasn’t life-threatening.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Ireland said: “I am pleased that Kamaree Jeffrey is no longer a danger to innocent members of the public.”
