Alexia Putellas was named the women’s footballer of the year for the second time in a row as she beat Beth Mead to the 2022 Ballon d’Or Feminin prize.
England and Arsenal star Mead, who won the best player award as the Lionesses won the Euros, came second after Putellas led Barcelona to an historic LaLiga title - winning every domestic game before missing the Euros through injury.
Before Monday’s ceremony in Paris, Lucy Bronze was the only England player to make the top three of the Ballon d’Or Feminin having finished second in 2019.
Bronze, Mead and Millie Bright were among the 20 nominees while Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Sam Kerr of Chelsea made the longlist from the Women’s Super League.
Kerr finished third for the second year in a row ahead of Bronze (10th), Miedema (11th) and Bright (15th).
German younsgter Lena Oberdorf and Barcelona’s Aitanna Bonmarti rounded off the top five.
The 2020 award was cancelled due to the pandemic with Ada Hederberg, Megan Rapinoe and Putellas the previous winners of its three editions.
