Bestwood man dumps 'bags of heroin and crack cocaine' after being stopped by police

A man threw away nearly 20 bags of heroin and crack cocaine after being stopped by police.

Jayden Walcott, 26, was spotted trying to dump the class A drugs by officers during a stop and search.

Police initially pulled the car that Mr Walcott was travelling in over as it was not insured, the force reported.

They immediately noticed a strong smell of cannabis as they approached the vehicle.

Mr Walcott was caught trying to throw the class A drugs away as he got out the passenger seat.

He was then searched by police and found to have cannabis and cash on him.

Walcott, of Raymede Drive, Bestwood, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (March 7), having pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of class A drugs.

He was handed a two-year prison sentence, which has been suspended for two years.

Inspector Paul Ferguson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the awareness of our eagle-eyed officers, we were able to seize a quantity of class A and B drugs and take them off our streets.

“Our officers were actually carrying out a routine traffic stop over car insurance in this case, but these stop and searches also represent an important method for helping us identify other offences too, including drugs activity.

“We hope that this case will serve as a reminder to people that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities.”
