With summer just around the corner and years of waiting for a proper time to enjoy it with friends and family - a lot of people might be hopeful of a trip to a water park. We're lucky to be blessed with a load of good old fashioned swimming pools in Nottinghamshire, but not many explosive water parks.
So if that's the sort of thing you're after this summer you'll probably need to get in your car. Fear not though as you won't have to drive too far to access the thrills and fun that only a water park in the sunshine can bring.
Here's a look at various different water attractions that aren't that far away.
Alton Towers Water Park
Packed with flumes, including a "water coaster" with a view of the entire park, Alton Towers Water Park is probably one of the best in the UK. As well as flumes for adrenaline junkies there's also a number of more relaxing rides.
And crucially there's plenty of options for little people as well, including water play areas and smaller slides. There's even an outdoor pool where you can watch the steam rise on a cold day.
Standard admission for children is £14.50 and adults (12 and over) is £16.50.

Waterworld, Stoke-on-Trent
Also making a claim to be the UK's number one water park is Waterworld, in North Staffordshire. And like Alton Towers there's a wide variety of impressive rides, including the Space Bowl and Super Flume.
There's also a range of medium flumes and toddler slides, as well as racing slides for competitive types. A single ticket for adults, children, spectators, carers and disabled guests is £21.
You can receive a £3 refund if you child is under 1.1 metres tall.
Calypso Cove Waterpark, Barnsley
It'll take you 90 minutes to get to this beautiful waterpark if you get a good run up the M1, not that much longer than Alton Towers. And what you find when you get there is pretty impressive.
Described as Barnsley's hidden treasure, the waterpark was created by D Creations who worked on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean, and features a bespoke 9ft skull that had to be transported in pieces then reassembled in the waterpark.
There's three flumes, including one where you choose your own music before you slide down, and a host of other pools and features. For one and a half hours adults cost £9.50, juniors are £7.60 and family tickets are £32.
Tamworth SnowDome
Better known for, well, snow, Tamworth SnowDome also has a decent pool with a flume. Not quite on the same level as Alton Towers, just up the road, the SnowDome's facilities are still worth a visit though.
In fact if you're looking for a full day out many visitors hit the slopes and then go for a soak afterwards. As well as a 25m pool there's a junior and toddler pool, ensuring safe splashing for your brood.
A chance to use to pool, flume and floats costs £5.65 for adults (16 and over) and £4.75 for juniors (2-15).
The Wave, Coventry
The Wave has become a hugely popular addition to the water parks of the Midlands. Boasting nine slides, the £36m development is right in the centre of Coventry making it convenient for parking, eating out and other attractions.
From high-speed slides and a fun-packed splash zone to the wave pool and relaxing lazy river, there’s something for thrill, spill and chill seekers of all ages to enjoy.
