Windows 10 may be the world’s most popular operating system for laptops and desktops, but not every provider builds a VPN service to work with it.

For instance, NordVPN recommends that you use its application for connecting to their servers via a Windows PC. NordVPN designed features, such as Double VPN, Onion servers and automated kill switch technology for Windows specifically (but they may apply to other operating systems, too). You can get NordVPN starting at $2.99 per month if you sign up for three years—billed at a total of $107.55. (Here is the Windows 10 tutorial if you need it after signing up.)

PureVPN leverages the OpenVPN protocol for its Windows app. It has a specific step-by-step process for Windows 10 users. Regular pricing is only $3.33 per month (paid annually). Not to be beaten by competitors, it has a 31-day satisfaction guarantee.

While ExpressVPN does not specifically state that it uses OpenVPN, it does provide a Windows 10 (and 8, 7, XP, and Vista, as well) app that will take you through the process once you sign up for their VPN for Windows service. ExpressVPN is one of my favorite VPN services. It has a no-logs policy (essential in my view), and the service is $99.95 per year (paid annually). It also offers a kill switch that terminates your connection if a breach occurs. You can read more about about the kill switch in the Benefits of a VPN post.

IPVanish has a large network of secure servers around the world. A subscription can be used on multiple devices, making it a good choice for families. The Windows 10 app is very solid. It only offers a 7-day money-back guarantee, but that should be more than enough time to take it through some testing. A paid plan is $6.49 per month or $77.99 paid annually.

ProtonVPN is a fine service by the company behind the ultra-secure ProtonMail. It offers a free plan with limited speed and, most amazingly, unlimited data—but the paid plans are affordable and competitive. A basic plan starts at $4 per month. ProtonVPN’s native client app is the simplest way to install ProtonVPN on your device (it uses OpenVPN protocol by default, by the way).

MeanwhileTunnelBear offers a specific download for each OS, including Windows (most of the others are essentially doing this as well). It’s one of the few providers on this list that offers a free tier, so you can test out the system for as long as you like, if you are okay with only 500Mb of data per month. You can get its one-year plan for $4.99 per month if you pay the full annual $59.88, and that gets you unlimited data for five connected devices.

And Fastest VPN offers one of the lowest VPN prices (outside of totally free) on the market. If you opt for a five-year subscription, the service costs only 83 cents per month for a 60-month total of $49.95. It packs the service with all the important features you have read about in this VPN series. The setup process walks you through no matter what operating system you are using, but here is a Windows help page if you need it after signup.
