Best tall indoor plants: Houseplants that will stand out

Having a decor crisis and need a shake-up? A blossoming plant might be the perfect remedy.

Indoor greenery fills the home with colour and texture. Even the smallest potted shoots can help the space feel nurtured and curated.

Tall indoor plants take this sentiment to new heights. A willowy succulent that flanks a sofa or armchair signifies a homeowner with taste. Whether you choose an Arecas or a Dracaenas to dot around your living space, it will add a pinch of botanical zest to your plantless pad. It’s just a case of knowing where to find them.

Veteran vegetation owners will know that the benefits of owning a plant or two extend beyond aesthetic value. Real plants can help to purify the air that we breathe by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. This helps to improve our respiratory systems and reduces the chances of catching illnesses.

A recent study between RHS Science and the University of Reading revealed that plants can further absorb airborne pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and increase ambient humidity. So naturally, they are popular buys among health warriors.

This is reflected in a Gitnux market-data report from this year which concluded that the global market of household plants was valued at over $5.6 billion (£4.4 billion) in 2021 and is expected to reach $27.1 billion (£21 billion) by 2025. Millennials make up for 37 per cent of all US consumers, primarily buying succulents for their aesthetic value. So it’s safe to say that houseplants are a flourishing industry.

Hone your interior decorating skills and liven up the space with a towering houseplant to accent your home.
