Get ready for some major summer holiday inspiration thanks to new research by Thomas Cook !

The travel giant has revealed the top five most popular destinations for Brits in 2019 as part of its annual Holiday Report , based on its package holidays and flight-only bookings.

Topping the list is Spain, which has continued to draw in Brits thanks to the cheap packages to be found across its mainland, the Balearics and the Canary Islands.

Second place went to Turkey which has seen a steady increase in British visitors in recent years, while the third spot went to Greece thanks to its breathtaking islands and budget-friendly breaks.

We take a look at the top five destinations below including top tips to know and where to find cheap breaks...

1. Spain

Spain continues to be a firm hit with Brits, which isn't surprising when you consider that there are plenty of cheap packages to be found whether you're after city breaks or all-inclusive beach holidays.

It's worth noting that Thomas Cook encompassed the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands as well as mainland Spain when determining this as the top destination.

2. Turkey

Turkey's popularity has been steadily on the rise in recent years, but this year Thomas Cook has noted a 27 per cent uplift in flight-only bookings compared to 2018.

The travel firm credits the country's attractiveness for being outside the EU (a bonus amidst the Brexit uncertainty), the local food, the beaches, the mountains and salt lakes and of course the fact that you can find plenty of cheap deals including all-inclusive breaks.

It's no surprise that Greece continues to be a hit with Brits looking for a dreamy sun-soaked holiday.

4. USA

The USA caters to a whole host of holidays including ski trips, beach breaks, city breaks, mountain escapes and more, so it's no surprise that it's such a popular holiday spot.

According to Thomas Cook, as a nation we're favouring city breaks to the likes of Las Vegas and New York .

Meanwhile, Florida is a favourite for family holidays, no doubt because it's the home of Orlando with its epic theme parks.

5. Cyprus

Thomas Cook has noted an increase in bookings for Cyprus holidays, and it seems that its reputation for being a dreamy wedding destination could be contributing.

The travel firm has said that couples who are booking early to make sure guests save the date may be contributing to the surge, adding that its popularity may dip later in the year.

Still, Cyprus is also hailed as a great value winter sun destination so you may want to keep an eye out if you're able to travel outside of the school holiday dates.
