Best spring jackets: Top trend picks for this season

If there is one certainty in the British springtime, it’s the uncertainty of the weather.

While we would love to pack up our outerwear until September, unfortunately, we are forced to be realistic, sartorially speaking. We can, however, retire our ankle-length football manager-esque puffers and replace them with lighter, more playful outerwear that better suits the season.

In spring 2025, coat trends leave a lot of room for creativity. Sure, trenches, leather and denim will forever play a part in our capsule wardrobes but there are new cuts, silhouettes and patterns infiltrating the classics that will disrupt the entrenched styles.

For those early days when sunshine disguises sub-zero temperatures, swap puffers for parkas for an Oasis-approved aesthetic that brings the Britpop early 2010s vibe without resorting to skinny jeans. See also Hailey Bieber’s favourite bomber silhouettes, the enduring sophistication of blazers and utilitarian workwear favourites plaid eschewing its lumberjack associations and chore jackets becoming an everyday essential.

But as the days heat up, so too can your coat selection. This is where leopard print shakets will come into their own. The ubiquity of the pattern shows no signs of wavering – its consideration as a neutral is a hill we will die on at ES Best HQ. Leopard is the (not-so) new black.

Retro leanings are always high in fashion but this season it’s 1970s-inspired suede jackets and Penny Lane faux fur trims in the limelight. Vintage outlets are preferable for cost and authenticity but if you don’t fancy diving into the rails, you’ll find a wealth of new retro-inspired pieces on digital storefronts too.
