Best spring jackets of 2024 from Burberry, Kitri and more

Spring is a time for renewal, so what better way to start the season than with a brand-new jacket?

The milder weather invites shoppers to shed their layers in favour of lightweight outerwear. Naturally, being spring, the season is the prime time to add a flicker of colour to your wardrobe, perhaps in the form of pastels, prints or embroidery.

Florals are the obvious choice, or as Miranda Priestly sarcastically posited “ground-breaking for spring,” yet this doesn’t mean they are passé. It-girl brands such as Kitri, Free People and Rixo have taken to the drawing board and successfully incorporated colourful blooms into their popular spring collections, proving that gardenscape garments reign supreme from March onwards.

Take the most recent offerings from Fashion Month for example. Preen By Thornton Bregazzi, Thom Browne and Emporio Armani sent sprawling floral jackets down their autumn/winter 2024 runways. Florals aren’t just for spring after all.

Denim also takes a starring role in the sartorial rotation during springtime. Not quite warm enough for winter, the iconic retro textile is ideal for the balmier weather. Ahluwalia, Masha Popova, Coach, Gabriela Hearst and Dior know this better than anyone else, introducing fresh new denim designs in their most recent collections for both men and women.

Setting luxury aside, we can also look to more practical designs to ward off the April showers. Raincoats and waterproofs, although not quite as opulent, offer commuters a light shell to combat the British drizzle. But fear not fashion lovers as the Liam Gallagher-inspired layer has taken on a new sartorial cachet thanks to labels such as Rains, Gandys and Aligne, who have helped to transform the preppy piece into a cool-girl, ravewear staple.
