Best smart dishwashers for easy and energy-efficient cleaning

Smart kitchen gadgets are all the rage.

From coffee machines which are voice activated and will remember your favourite drink, to smart kettles where the temperature can be controlled through your phone, every household appliance is being converted into a “smart” one - and dishwashers are no exception.

What is a smart dishwasher?

A smart dishwasher works like any other ordinary dishwasher, except they come with a whole host of special features including Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth and in some cases, voice activation.

Most smart dishwashers are able to automatically detect the size of the load and how dirty dishes are - and adjusts its water and energy settings to ensure that it is operating as efficiently as possible and ultimately save you money. Other functions include text or voice reminders when you are low on detergent or rinse aid and the ability to lock the dishwasher door from your phone, which is particularly good for child safety.

Similar to other smart household gadgets, a smart dishwasher is connected to your phone via the brand’s app. Most dishwashers will come with a clear guide on how to download the free app and ensure connection is secured with the dishwasher. Once it’s all set up, the dishwasher is good to go and can be controlled entirely remotely from your electronic device.

Ranging considerably in price (from £350 to £1600) and the features that are included in a smart dishwasher, we’ve made shopping around for one simpler with our roundup of the best on the market.

Haier XIB6B2S3FS Wifi Connected Fully Integrated Standard Dishwasher

Similar to the TARDIS, this dishwasher may look compact on the outside but actually comes with a 16 place setting meaning there’s plenty of space for all the dishes that a larger households may use. With an impressive 12 wash programmes, there is guaranteed to be a setting that suits your needs, whatever they are.

The dishwasher can connect to the hOn App where you can control most features. Despite it being slightly less “smart” than some of the other dishwashers in this round up (not voice controlled), we were impressed with how little energy and water it uses compared to other dishwashers. We also liked the wood colour of the dishwasher which would fit seamlessly among other kitchen appliances in the kitchen.

It also has an adjustable water softener so the dishwasher can be adapted to work with your water depending on its hardness level.
