Best sandy beaches within 90 minutes of Nottingham

It's summer time now and what better way to enjoy a warm British day than gathering some family and friends, heading to the beach and getting some sand between your toes? Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 29C over the next week - so it's a perfect time to pack up the swimming costumes, take a dip and grab yourself some classic fish and chips.

Though for many, making a decision about where to go is the hardest part of the journey. Nottinghamshire is landlocked, meaning we need to drive at least two hours to get to the nearest seaside resort.

However, there are five popular, well-loved beaches within driving distance from our area that you could visit any day this week. Below is a list of the five beaches you could visit with your family during this week's warm weather.

Skegness

The classic. Nothing beats a good day out in Skeggy even if it's just for a walk on the beach and some chunky chips.

The most obvious and likely popular beach for Nottinghamshire tourists is Skegness. It's set to be a lovely summer this year, with holidaymakers expected to flock to the seaside.

And with that, it is the perfect time for a day trip to the beach for an ice cream, the revamped Skegness pier or even a trip along the sand with a donkey (just one of the seaside's many quirks). Don't forget a visit to the seal sanctuary which has, unsurprisingly, seals and more unusually, a family of meerkats.

Mablethorpe

This Lincolnshire beach was recently named as one of the best in the country by a new list produced by The Times. Mablethorpe beach appears third on the ‘Best Beaches 2022’ list for the east of England, beating its neighbour, Skegness as well as beaches in both Suffolk and Norfolk.

The beach is both dog-friendly and accessible and features amenities such as a café and toilets, making it a place for everyone. Everything is overlooked by a lifeguard providing safety for Mablethorpe’s “excellent” waters, which make the local seaside town a recommended tourist destination.

Ingoldmells

Similarly to Skegness, Ingoldmells is also regularly flooded with tourists from Nottinghamshire during the summer time and when temperatures soar.

The popular resort, which is slightly further north on the Lincolnshire coast than Skegness, is roughly 81 miles from Nottingham and would, again, take you slightly more than two hours to get to the beach.

The resort has plenty of attractions including Fantasy Island, an animal farm, a beach rated as 'beautifully clean' on TripAdvisor and many food and drink options for families.

Cleethorpes

Cleethorpes beach is a long stretch of picturesque coastline. Not far from Nottingham, the beach gives ample opportunity to sit in the sun, or paddle in the waters off the coast, visit the arcades or do something more active and go stand up paddle-boarding or kite surfing.
