'Best sandy beach in UK' just a two hour drive from Liverpool

After what seemed like an extremely long winter, summer is finally here and there's been plenty of warmer weather already.

With more sunny days on the way, many people are looking for beaches to visit, and while we are very lucky to have some gorgeous coastlines right here in Merseyside, it can be nice to shake things up with a change of scenery.

Many people may not know there's a glorious "hidden gem" beach just a two hour drive from Liverpool, and it was recently dubbed the UK's best sandy beach.

Traeth Llanddwyn in Anglesey has a five-star rating on Tripadvisor, with visitors hailing it "magical" and "stunning", as well as being "well worth the drive". The Daily Mail recently rated all of Britain's beaches, and Llanddwyn came out on top.

North Wales Live reports the beach is hardly undiscovered but its popularity continues to soar. A video of the beach’s golden sands recently went viral on TikTok and awareness is likely to increase further now that it’s due to feature in HBO’s new House of the Dragon (HOTD) series.

Backed by a glorious pine forest, the Blue Flag Beach is also adjacent to an extensive dune system. The area is rich in birds and wildlife, from wild ponies to red squirrels and even leeches. The area is used by walkers, runners, cyclists and horse riders.

A recent video of the beach’s golden sands has racked up more than 1.4 million views on TikTok. It was posted by user Heykeyt, who claimed it was “hands down the most romantic spot in Wales”.
