Pramsuits are the perfect product to keep babies and toddlers feeling toasty on chilly days. But come the warmer months, swap soft fleeces for practical waterproofs so they can feel just as cosy, while also ready for any spring showers that may surprise you on a summer’s day.
What is a pramsuit?
Pramsuits offer a fuss-free way to keep your child warm when they’re out and about, and remove the need to wrap them in layers of blankets. Often designed with built-in mittens and feet, they offer literal head-to-toe protection for your baby, with cosy face-framing hoods - often lined with fleece or faux fur - adding the cherry on top. For extra-protection, keep your eyes specifically peeled for snowsuits, which are designed with the freezing winter months in mind.
While pramsuits and snowsuits are traditionally a staple of autumn and winter, there are also more lightweight options available for spring and summer, too. Designed to be worn during milder days, these will often boast waterproof properties - making them perfect for seasonal downpours - and will still typically offer a degree of cosiness via fleece-lined interiors. Puddle suits are also available, which, with their waterproof properties, are perfect for keeping babies and toddlers protected from downpours.
Depending on the time of year - and how you usually dress your baby - it can be wise to size up. In colder weather, this means your child can comfortably wear additional layers underneath their pramsuit or snowsuit, and will also give you the chance to get maximum usage of the product.
Which is the best pramsuit for my baby?
The best pram suit for your baby will have a design that will make putting it on and taking it off as straightforward as possible - no matter how wriggly your child might be. Many pramsuits now are designed with two zips that run vertically down the front of the product, making them easy to slip over little arms and legs. It will also offer protection against the elements, such as wind and rain.
When shopping for the perfect pramsuit, keep your eyes peeled for factors including:
- How easy it is to care for: because as we all know, accidents do happen
- What it’s made of: be it cotton, polyester or recycled materials
- How your child will use it: if they’re a small baby that can’t yet walk, look out for a design that features built-in feet. For an older child, who can run around, make sure the product can be worn with shoes or boots.
You will most likely need at least two: one pramsuit that’s appropriate for cold weather, and another that can be worn in milder temperatures and offer protection against spring showers.

Recycled Quilted Snow Suit
This minimalistic snow suit is available from 0-3 months to 12-18 months in your pick of three Scandi-cool colours (oatmeal, dusky pink and navy blue) and is great for tackling winter weather.
We were impressed by its eco credentials: it’s made from recycled polyester (sourced from plastic bottles) and also features an entirely recycled polyester polar fleece lining. Promising to keep your child comfortable in the face of wind, rain and chilly temperatures, it boasts a fluffy interior that’s strokably soft and seems gentle for sensitive skin.
There is also a handy two-way zip for ease-of-access, and we loved that the booties and mittens are detachable - a great detail if your baby is tentatively starting to walk.
The strong colour-block design and the cloud reflector on the sleeve give it a timeless appeal so it can passed down from child to child.

Dinosaur Packaway All-In-One
A great option for cool spring days, this waterproof pramsuit is ideal for older babies and toddlers who are ready to explore, but for younger pram-only babies, there’s a fleece lined version. The colourful dinosaur print will go down a treat with your little one, and it offers great protection against both wind and rain.
It’s also a great choice if you’re looking for an eco-friendly option; it’s made from 100 per cent recycled polyester (the equivalent of around 13 recycled bottles).
The all-in-one is designed with your child’s comfort in mind: its double zip openings make putting it on and taking it off easy, while the optional stirrups are great for holding the suit’s legs in place, no matter how enthusiastic the puddle splashing.

Polarn O. Pyret Windproof Fleece Baby Pramsuit
With a size range that spans from newborn to 12 months, this fleecy pramsuit comes in either dark blue or dusky pink. While it might feel thin to the touch, it’s a great choice for spring and summer. Admittedly, it’s not as warm as some of the winter-friendly pramsuits or snowsuits on this list but is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester fleece that can repel water.
The piece also has a pure organic cotton lining so your baby’s delicate skin is perfectly catered for. The hood is easy to detach and reattach, and the contrast of the colour-block material with the striped feet and mittens adds style points.
It’s worth noting that the biggest size (9-12 months) doesn’t feature the foldover hands and feet that the smaller sizes do, meaning your child will need to wear shoes or socks. Regardless of their size, your mini-me will feel perfectly cocooned come rain or shine, and the classic design of the pramsuit won’t date.

Baby Cozy Gap Logo One-Piece
As the name suggests, this GAP pramsuit is the definitive in cosy, without feeling stifling. Offering a more casual take on the classic pramsuit, your baby’s hands and feet aren’t constrained so separate mittens and socks/shoes may be appropriate. This also makes it a great choice for toddling children who might want to run around as well as sit in a pram. Its strokable sherpa lining is soft on baby’s skin, while its zipper-front closure gives easy access if a quick nappy change is required on the go. It’s easy to care for and can simply be popped in the washing machine when inevitable spillages occur. Special mention must go, of course, to the one-piece’s adorable ears.

Cosy Pram Suit
In either a farmyard print or a colourful harvest-inspired pattern, this cosy pram suit is perfect for autumn and winter. With different components made variably from cotton and polyester, it felt soft to the touch and made us slightly envious of our tiny tester. This pram suit is ideal for babies and toddling children alike - it comes in sizes 0-3 months to 2-3 years.
For little ones up to the age of 12 months, there are built-in mittens and feet, but older children will need gloves and socks/shoes.
Despite the vibrant pattern, it is to look after: we just popped it in the washing machine for a fuss-free freshen up and it took about a day to dry.

Jersey Pramsuit
Available in pale pink or dusky grey, Mamas & Papas Jersey Pramsuit is fractionally lighter than a traditional winter pramsuit, making it a great option for early spring. With its double-zip front, it was easy to get our tester in and out of (and without too much rearranging of her limbs that’s always a bonus!). We couldn’t get over how soft the cotton lining was.
It ranges in size from newborn to 12-18 months, and is an all-round classic when it comes to choosing the best pramsuit for your baby. The piece comes at a great price point, too. It’s one of the cheapest on this list but certainly doesn’t feel as if any quality has been compromised.

Toastie Kids Quilted Onesie
Toastie is an eco-focused kidswear company that’s stocked by Scandi-themed baby brand Scandiborn, and its Kids Quilted Onesie is available in a quartet of cool muted colours (seagrass, navy, berry and honey) that make it perfect for frosty days.
Another pramsuit with a double-zip design, the piece is incredibly snug thanks to its eco-down fill, which has been especially created to replicate the same levels of warmth that real down would offer. Despite this, it’s still lightweight, breathable and doesn’t feel particularly bulky. The sherpa-lined hood - complete with teddy bear ears - bumps up the cosy-factor and we loved how soft-on-the-skin everything felt.
To get maximum wear, size-up when buying so your little one can wear always layers underneath and be able to grow into it. The pramsuit comes in sizes from newborn to toddler, and it’s appropriate for everything from snoozing in the pram to running around in the park.

Puddle Buster All In One
Known for its bold patterns, Frugi and the label’s Puddle Buster All In One is a great pick for the rainy days of spring and early summer. The sizes range from 6-12 months to 5-6 years, and it works particularly well for older babies and toddlers who are finding their feet. It comes complete with useful elasticated straps to go over said feet to ensure the legs stay in place, no matter how extreme the puddle jumping.
With a waterproof rating of 10,000 Hydrostatic Head (HH - the measure of how much pressure its material can take before letting water in), it’s probably the best pramsuit out there for parents who are planning to take their children on wild outdoor adventures. The reflective detailing around the wrists and feet was a great touch, while the fleecy interior of the one-piece is great for keeping breezes at bay.
The Puddle Buster All In One also has impressive eco pedigree: it’s made entirely from recycled polyester and is also free from flurocarbon.

Rachel Riley Faux Fur Trim Snowsuit
Rachel Riley is synonymous with stylish baby clothes, with the brand’s designs regularly spotted on the Instagram feeds of influencer mums across the UK and the royal family. Its Faux Fur Trim Snowsuit is a must-consider for the cooler months of the year with its warmth-generating padded design.
Available in soft pink or cool dusky blue, its fur-trimmed hood is perfect for keeping little ears warm, while its built-in mittens are easy to pull back at snack time. Admittedly, it’s an investment piece - it’s the most expensive pramsuit on our list - and has the true demarcation of high-quality by being dry clean only.
If you can get past that, it’s worth it: our tiny tester loved its snug design and the hard-wearing construction means it would last for any future wearers, too. A matching bonnet is also available to purchase separately if you want to add some extra cuteness to your baby’s pram attire.
