'Best player on earth' - Jurgen Klopp sent Liverpool loanee reminder

Sepp van den Berg has sent a reminder to Liverpool following his impressive performances with Preston North End.

The 20-year-old Dutch defender has been a virtual ever-present at Deepdale this term, missing just one game since rejoining the club on loan in the summer, following a short-term deal last season.

Having played at right wingback and now as a centre-half in Preston’s three at the back formation, Van den Berg has excelled during his time in the Championship.

Following the club’s 2-0 away win over West Brom on Wednesday night, Preston fans lauded the defender and called for him to make a permanent switch from Liverpool.

Van den Berg began the season at wingback before being handed a more central defensive role from the end of October.

Preston have enjoyed a recent upturn in form following the appointment of former Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe last month, winning three of his first six games in charge with one defeat.

The versatile Van den Berg, who made his Eredivisie debut with PEC Zwolle aged 16, has set his sights on a play-off place with Preston this term - but has done no harm to his long-term future with the Reds, either.

The Netherlands U21 international was handed first team opportunities by Jurgen Klopp in the 2019/20 campaign, making four appearances in domestic cup competitions.

As speculation grows around the futures of several Liverpool players, including Neco Williams and Nat Phillips, a successful spell in the Championship could see Van den Berg back in the first team setup.

Harvey Elliott provided the defender with a prime example in the early weeks of the season, after returning from his loan move with Blackburn Rovers.

The 18-year-old had started three consecutive league games for Liverpool, prior to the long-term injury he suffered against Leeds in September.

Having won over the Blackburn fans with his impressive displays, the teenager was welcomed back to Ewood Park earlier this week to thank him for his efforts at the club.

Able to offer cover at both right-back and centre-half, Van den Berg may yet enjoy a similar experience with Preston, if Liverpool decide to keep him around the first team picture next season.
