Best places to watch the Great Bristol Half Marathon 2022

The Great Bristol Half Marathon returns to the city this week and there will be some incredible views - both for runners and spectators. Taking place on Sunday, September 25, around 10,000 runners are set to compete and pound the streets of Bristol.

The 13.1mile route takes in some of Bristol's finest sights, such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Harbourside, and dozens of road closures are in place as a result.

As a result some great pictures can be up for grab, if you know where to stand.

If you're thinking of heading into Bristol to watch the race on Sunday morning, here's our pick of places to soak up the atmosphere, laugh at the fancy dress on show and enjoy the day.

The Portway

It's one of Bristol's longest roads and it forms the bulk of the half marathon route. You'll see the runners pass twice along the Portway, as they head out of the city centre and then back again.

Harbourside

The race both starts and finishes on Anchor Road and passes along the Harbourside at various points. There are dozens of lovely spots to cheer people along from here, and there are even more bars and cafes to watch the race from while enjoying a drink or two.

Queen Square

This tranquil part of central Bristol will be transformed by weary runners on Sunday. It features in the course close to the end of the race, so this would be a great spot to give a few much-needed cries of encouragement from.

Castle Park

If the weather's good on Sunday, there can be few better places to watch the race from than Castle Park. Pack up a picnic and a few beverages and get ready to make some noise.

Welsh Back and Redcliffe Backs

This is towards the end of the course so again, there will be a great atmosphere as spectators do their best to pep the runners up.

If you want an excellent view without the crowds, then head for Redcliffe Backs across the water - the race doesn't pass directly along here, but you'll be able to see everything from Welsh Back on the other side.
