If you're evaluating mutual funds for your investment portfolio or retirement account, this list highlights the best midcap stock fund to consider now, based on the fund having outperformed the S&P 500 over the past one-, three-, five- and 10-year periods.
Of 248 midcap stock funds at least 10 years old, only two of them won an award. None of the rest outperformed the S&P 500 in all four time periods.
Like small-cap funds, midcap funds (comprising the stocks of companies with a market capitalization between $2 billion and $10 billion) faced a tough environment last year.
Speed bumps included rising interest rates, worries about a recession and fund flows into the megacap Magnificent Seven stocks.
