Best mates quit their chef jobs to start healthy meal takeaway that delivers to your work

Two best friends quit their jobs as chefs to set up a new healthy meal takeaway that delivers to your place of work.

George Bennett, 26, from Woolton, started Benno Box with his friend Andrew Kelly three years ago during lockdown. Since then, his business has grown to deliver healthy pre-prepared meals to thousands of people across Merseyside, from hard-working mums to dedicated athletes.

George and Andrew previously had experience working as chefs in various Liverpool venues. However, during the covid pandemic they began cooking and delivering meals to a friend.

Three years later, George claims Benno Box is delivering meals to over 1,000 people in Merseyside with a small team operating out of a kitchen in Toxteth. These are healthy, freshly prepared meals, such as chilli con carne, Thai yellow curry and a veggie steak burger, and can be purchased individually or as part of a menu plan.

George said: “A lot of what we do comes down to convenience. It is healthy food but also convenient because we deliver directly to people at home or at work throughout Merseyside.”

But for George, it’s more than just a meal delivery service, he argued Benno Box actively helps people get healthier.

He said: “We help people lose weight, we help people get a better relationship with food. We’ve had numerous people say to us that we’ve changed their lives. That’s a special feeling.”

George and Andrew also push themselves to the limit with ultra marathon running. George said: “Andrew runs 100 mile races. I did a 70 mile run last week, which was a challenge, to say the least.

“But it’s part of what we do. If our clients can see us pushing and testing ourselves, it inspires them a bit more. If I can do these things, it means my clients can do these things as well.”

George is keen to credit his long-term friend for keeping Benno Box going through thick and thin. He said: “Andrew has been integral. He’s a powerhouse. He’s the one who initiated the running.”

This is all the more important given the ongoing rising costs for all businesses. George added: “Andrew doesn’t miss a penny, nothing gets wasted. We are making it through this crisis.”

Despite all this success, the pair are not getting complacent and remain very ambitious. George said: “We don’t plan on stopping. We genuinely plan on revolutionising how people eat in Merseyside with healthy food. We want to provide the best healthy service in the whole country.”
