Best mates from Perth celebrate new arrivals on the same day, same hospital, same ward

A pair of proud Perth pals will certainly never forget how special Wednesday, May 25 was.

For their new arrivals into the world were born on the same day, at the same hospital and ended up in the same ward.

Jordan Turnbull (31) and partner Emma Park welcomed little girl Lottie early in the morning at 5.30am.

And then, at 10.24pm, best mate Kris Macgregor (30) and partner Amy Nicoll welcomed little boy Luke.

They would later sit side-by-side in ward 38 of Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for what was a lovely “miracle”.

A delighted Jordan told the PA: “I found out Emma and myself were expecting very early doors but we decided to keep it quiet for a while.

“The day I was going to announce it to my close friends, I felt my phone buzz.

“It was a scan picture from Kris in the group chat. I couldn’t believe it and was buzzing for him.

“I let him take the spotlight for a few hours before dropping my own scan picture in the chat.

“All our mates couldn’t believe it. Lottie was due about nine days earlier than Luke.

“We had joked about it happening around the same time but it was only tongue and cheek.”

He picked up the story: “I was heading to the toilet during Emma’s labour when I bumped into Kris.

“We both just looked at each other and asked the ‘what are you doing here?’ question then burst out laughing.

“Going through labour is a strange time, very exciting but also scary and stressful.

“Having my mate close by going through the same thing made it easier.

“Kris does night shifts so he is definitely going to handle the late-night nappy changes and feeds better than me!”

Kris, who plays alongside Jordan at local amateur football team Burrelton Rovers, admits he was speechless about how the day unfolded.

“We had joked a few times about it but we never thought it would actually happen until the night before,” he explained.

“I walked out of the toilet in the hospital to see my best mate sitting waiting. I was speechless.

“It was something you could never imagine. It was a miracle.

“It was obviously a tough time for our partners but being in the ward right next to each other afterwards, supporting Amy and Emma, made it easier and special.

“We could all just help out and have a laugh and a joke, plus share the amazing stories and memories together.

“We can’t wait for both Luke and Lottie to grow old together.

“When they are old enough we can share the story of how they were born in the same hospital on the same day and were in the same ward - and how their mums and dads shared a Domino’s together on the first night!”

Jordan smiled: “They are going to see a lot of each other, no doubt about that.

“We share a great close friend group. The kids will always be involved whatever we do.

“Hopefully their next meet-up will be at a Burrelton Rovers game!”
