Up and down the country, people are getting set to enjoy delicious snacks and drinks outdoors, and with July being National Picnic Month. it's the ideal excuse to head out for a picnic.

Whether you’re looking for a fun-filled outing for all the family, or if you’re planning a romantic date, picnics are a great way to connect with loved ones whilst taking in the summer sun.

A new survey has revealed the top five spots in Glasgow to visit to celebrate National Picnic Month.

Botanic Gardens, Great Western Road

The team behind the survey, Premium outdoor oven brand, Gozney , said: "Glasgow’s stunning Botanic Gardens offers picturesque views of nature, all whilst being renowned for its heritage. Preserving plant habitats is a core value to the gardens, with its tropical glasshouses boasting a collection of over 9,000 different plants.

"So, if you’re heading over for a picnic, remember to keep your trip sustainable and bring reusable cutlery and a bin bag to dispose of any rubbish."

Glasgow Green, Saltmarket

The Gozney team said: "One of Scotland’s most ancient public parks, Glasgow Green offers a relaxing escape from the city’s hustle and bustle atmosphere.

"Take in the calming green space whilst dining outdoors and then head over to visit one of the park’s historic landmarks, including McLennan Arch, Doulton Fountain and Nelson Monument."

As TRNSMT fans will testify it's the ideal place for an outdoor event, even if it's just some alfresco dining.

Kelvingrove Park, Park Terrace

Students from the Aerial Edge Circus School enjoy a picnic in the sunshine in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park (PA)

The Gozney team wrote: "At the heart of the West End, Kelvingrove Park is one of the more popular parks in Glasgow. Being a haven for wildlife, you can find otters, kingfishers and herons roaming around.

"This park is also perfect for picnic goers who are interested in exploring after a bite to eat as its home to bowling greens, play parks, and monuments."

Victoria Park, Westland Drive

The Gozney team posted: "Victoria Park is considered to be Glasgow’s prettiest park, boasting an extensive range of fabulous floral displays. For those planning a picnic date and are looking for ways to enjoy romantic views in the summer sun, Victoria Park offers a stunning scenic space to do just that."

Pollok Country Park, Pollokshaws Road

The Gozney team stated: "Being Glasgow’s largest green space, Pollok Country Park is great for large groups if you’re planning a picnic for all the family. Having a vast open area means this park is perfect for those looking to level up their picnics, as it’s flame-friendly. Get your grills at the ready or bring out Gozney’s portable Roccbox for an on-the-go pizza party."

The team also shared some advice on how to plan the perfect picnic.

Avoid overpacking

"The best part about planning a picnic is packing for them can be kept simple. As you may be walking to your chosen location, it’s crucial to not overpack. Some key items to bring include a blanket, a cool box to keep your food fresh, reusable cutlery, and some crowd pleaser snacks."

Plan your food

"The next step in planning the ultimate picnic is choosing foods that are either ready to eat or easy to prepare whilst you’re dining outdoors. For those looking to picnic on a scorching hot day, avoid packing chocolate as it’s likely to melt and give you sticky fingers."

Pick the right spot

Scoping out the best location to enjoy your alfresco bite to eat is important as your surroundings will help create the right atmosphere for your planned picnic.
