Dyson Airstrait
Joining its lineup of the Supersonic dryer, Airwrap multi-styler and Corrale, the Airstrait is Dyson’s latest innovation. It was created to solve two challenges detailed as the most pressing by its customers: lack of time and straightening prowess. It follows suit in the collection with its use of the V9 motor, but straightens faster and sleeker. Dyson has been working on solving this over the last four-plus years and always with its signature MO to minimise and prevent damage.
So here’s the thing: there are no hot plates involved in this straightening product. It breaks away from any hot iron preconceptions, instead opting for high-velocity jets of air to create straight, natural styles. And here’s another thing, you can style from wet.
There are two modes; wet-to-dry and dry-to-dry as well as a range of temperatures that never exceed 150°C (the limit to prevent hair damage). This multitasking device is a must for those who typically will dry and then straighten their hair. It transforms two tools into one seamless and speedy process where the total time taken was around 10 minutes (granted, my hair is thin in nature so it may take longer on thicker hair).
The finish is bouncy and slightly unfinished rather than poker straight, giving that effortless look without eliminating texture and volume. It also requires less concentration. When you’re using a regular hair dryer, the hair tends to fly around but this propels the air in just one direction.
It does take some time to finesse - not a lot but will require a few uses before you get the hang of it. The handy LED screen guides you through when changing the modes and temperature with a cute design of a person with diagrams and arrows to show you exactly what it will do.

The wet roller head works on hard floors releasing clean water to remove spills and stains, from paw prints to toothpaste.
It took us a while to detach and attach the water container but once figured out, the machine was ready and it propelled forward with ease, gathering crumbs and dust along the way, emitting an inoffensive whirring sound whilst in use. This model felt heavier than other Dyson cleaners we have tested, but still moved around the space well and was particularly efficient underneath furniture. We noted that the wet roller did not lose connection to the floor even when tilting the whole vacuum downwards to reach underneath the sofa.
We think the Dyson is the workhorse of the vacuum mop world, with interchangeable tools and heads for every possible household task, including a nozzle to reach tight spaces behind furniture that a larger vacuum can’t reach. The wet roller can be removed from the machine for cleaning and maintenance. Overall it has all the premium features you might expect from a Dyson and is a great option for people who need one appliance that does it all, from a quick run around the house to a full-blown spring clean.

It's not the most diminutive of household vacuums, but the Gen 5 brings Dyson’s engineering expertise to the fore.

The factually named Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde PH04 is one multitasking device. The addition of formaldehyde fighting as part of the purifying function is an interesting and important addition.
From the exterior box alone, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde PH04 is a sizeable piece of tech. Yet once unwrapped, this proves not to be the case with the fan measuring at a compact size, impressive given its wealth of functions. There’s nothing to set up: it’s pretty much ready to go out of the box. The fan comes with a charger and remote, the latter of which is offered in the same attractive rose gold hue as the fan’s base.
Across the entire Dyson range, you’ll find its cyclone technology that enables the brand to produce fans that are bladeless and hair tools with reduced heat damage. It is said that the engineers went through over 5,000 prototypes before they got this just right.
One of our favourite features is the ability to operate the oscillation function and even change the direction of flow with the touch of a button on the remote. By altering the latter from forward to back, this triggers Diffused mode. This circulates streams of purified and humidified air without lowering the temp too much - helpful in winter.
Interestingly too, oscillation doesn’t affect the base’s movement, you’ll just see the thin vents on either side move. They can also be directed to operate independently of each other. So, if you’re boiling but your other half isn’t, the fan can be personalised to cool just you: truly, state-of-the-art stuff.
When the warmer weather hits, this fan offers a powerful hit of purified air (and the addition of humidification, should you wish), but works best when you’re directly in front of it. Open-plan spaces may find it challenging to feel the effects, even at the highest setting.
The multi-functional Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde PH04 makes it incredibly satisfying to monitor the removal of allergens, bacteria and spores in your home, both through the graph and accompanying app. The fan function packs a punch but is better suited for smaller spaces.
My only bugbear? I wish it was on wheels so I could move it more easily from room to room.
