Greater Manchester has some pretty amazing parks and green spaces where people can go to exercise, relax and unwind. But it’s not just people who love to visit them - dogs love them too.
From bounding springer spaniels to tiny chihuahuas, you’ll spot dogs of all shapes and sizes running around, bringing joy to both their owners and passersby - let’s be honest, we all enjoy meeting a dog when we’re out for a walk.

Philips Park, Prestwich
If you’re looking for an alternative place to Heaton Park to walk your dog then Philips Park in Prestwich is worth checking out. It offers a mixture of woodland areas and grassy fields, nestled just inside the M60.
There are lots of trails for you and your dog to explore. The River Irwell flows beside the park if you want some riverside views - look out for the impressive listed viaducts.
New Islington Marina, Ancoats
For those who live in the city centre, New Islington Marina is the go-to spot to take your pooch. It’s an oasis of calm with a boardwalk circling the edge of the marina, overlooking the colourful barges moored up there.
If your dog is up for socialising then you’re nearly always guaranteed to bump into a fellow four-legged friend around here. There are some grassy areas with wooden benches, too, where dogs can play.
Platt Fields Park, Manchester
Located south of the city, Platt Fields Park is a scenic place to walk your dog. At the centre of this Edwardian park is a stunning boating lake.
Your dog will love the large, grassy areas and all the different areas to explore.
Clayton Vale, Manchester
Clayton Vale offers you a slice of the countryside only a stone’s throw away from the centre of Manchester. It’s a gorgeous nature reserve created on the site of a former ash tip.
It’s great for dogs who love riverside walks as the Medlock River flows through it, while there are areas of woodland too. Take your dog along one of the many trails and lose yourself in nature.
Etherow Country Park, Stockport
For dogs who love variety, Etherow Country Park has plenty to offer. This Stockport park boasts 200 acres of green space with woodland, lakes, marshland and a river.
It has a pretty lake as well as an impressive weir. Lining the sides of the valley are areas of ancient woodland with trails running through the trees.
