If you live in a small studio or one-bedroom apartment, giving your room some color is such a treat. When you paint a room in your living space, you beautify the interior, improve air quality in your living space, prevent damage to your home, and most importantly, boost your mood while spending time at home.
Interior Designer, Julia Lachar, took the time to speak with us about colors one could utilize to paint a bedroom. She explained to us how one can determine the ideal color for their room. For instance, Lachar loves neutral colors, as they are usually landlord friendly and never go out of style.
How to Choose the Perfect Color for Your Room
Lachar suggests thinking of your favorite places. If you’re all about the outdoors, earthy colors should be your go-to. If you’re into beaches and resorts, go for shades that resemble the sand on the beach, the colors you spot in the sky at dawn or on a hike. Alllll the relaxing vibes.
Can't decide on a shade? Lachar suggests taking a closer look at the name of the color, as it may just speak to you or remind you of some happy memories while deciding the mood for your space.
When it comes to a small or odd shaped room, you want it to feel as cozy as possible.
Top Colors for Painting a Room
Alpaca by Sherwin-Williams
Now what can be cozier than Alpaca? This beautiful neutral color can substitute for a very expensive Alpaca throw, by giving your place that warm and comfy feeling. It is very versatile and can complement a variety of other colors in your furniture or accessories. The warm beige gray creates this soft look for any room or accent wall.
Evergreen Fog by Sherwin-Williams
Evergreen Fog is a perfect color for a small or oddly shaped room. This specific shade is cultivated from a perfect combination of gray, green, and blue, which will bring peace and freshness to your space. Cooler colors that have blues in them tend to make a space look larger, as the walls appear further away. Fun fact, Evergreen Fog was the color of the year for a reason!
Peppercorn by Sherwin-Williams
Adding some spice to your room with bold yet warm colors is always a great option if you are looking to create a focal point. Lachar states that having a little drama in the bedroom might be what we all need. As rich and timeless as this color can be, you might want to balance it out with some contrast with accessories such as pillows or compliment it with bed sheets that are the same color.
Linen White by Benjamin Moore
Linen White is always a great option for bedroom walls, as it is a very universal hue. This paint color is very seamless as it coordinates with living room and hallway colors. You could coordinate Linen White with an earthy beige or a sage green shade. Overall, putting warm colors with cooler box flooring and decor will cultivate more balance in your living space.
Upward by Sherwin Williams
If you’re seeking blue hues for your bedroom, Upward is your guy. This fresh and light hue is considered to be a neutral light blue that fills your room with peace, calmness, and tranquility.
You could pair this shade with a white paint color and result in a beautiful two-toned room. In addition, Upward could even serve as the main color for the whole room.
Calm by Benjamin Moore
If you want to experience clarity and versatility in your bedroom, then Calm is the perfect hue for you. Calm is considered to be warm gray and consists of a calming off-white with hints of lilac along with lavender-gray. This hue is just the ideal shade of light gray to assist with taking the stress away after a long day of work.
Dutch Tile Blue by Sherwin Williams
Want that beach town feel in your bedroom? If so, then Dutch Tile Blue is the hue for you. This hue consists of enough blue and grays, which adds a light pop of color to your room. Once you paint your room with Dutch Tile Blue, incorporate a warm color to variate with the neutral yet cool colored walls by investing in a cream-colored quilt and shams.
Big Cypress by PPG Paints
Add some fun to your room with this warm and inviting color. For Lachar, this shaded ginger orange with a persimmon undertone will bring you joyful memories of summers in Italy.
This is a great color to choose if you have cherry woods or gold touches.
