Best cava wines including top brands you can buy at the supermarket

Move over Prosecco, cava is coming for your bubbles crown.

After years of battling a bad reputation, this fizz is coming back to our attention - and for good reason.

Cava is made by bottle fermentation, exactly the same way as Champagne, unlike Prosecco, which gets its bubbles in a tank.

Most cava comes from Catalonia in Spain and is usually crafted from a trio of Catalan grapes, macabeo, xarel-lo and parellada.

If you've had your fill of Prosecoo, cava is an excellent alternative and is often drier than its Italian cousin.

We've rounded up the best cava wines below so you can celebrate every special occasion in style. Pop the cork and let the sparkle begin...

The best cava wines

1. Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Cava

Quality fizz with a splash of style? Friexenet is always a great option if you don’t want to spend a fortune but still want to be chic. The sleek black bottle looks great, and the drink itself is a good-quality tipple.
