OK, so it might be a bit nippy at the moment but as soon as spring starts to beckon you may just be ready for a quick break in the countryside - or even a winter weekend with a wood-fired hot tub. Seeking out some of the region's best camping and glamping sites now will mean that when holiday time comes, you won't have to fight off the competition for the best site. To make the job super easy, the winners of the 2022 Camping and Glamping Awards have been announced.
From secluded woodland spots to family fun holiday parks, luxury heated yurts, and everything in between, booking website Campsites.co.uk studied them all. The team there came up with stand-out winners and runner up prized with three local sites claiming titles.
Martin Smith, founder of the website said: “With so many great sites it hasn’t been easy to choose the winners, but these sites have offered campers something extra special this year, going above and beyond for their guests. Congratulations to all the winners.”

As you might expect, many of those highlighted are in holiday hotspots such as Cornwall, Devon and Norfolk, with Scotland also seeing its fair share of winners too. However, with regional awards being handed out in all categories Nottinghamshire shone through in the East Midlands category.
Best glamping site award nationally went to Luna Domes' high-end geodomes at Hoath House in Kent. However, Nottinghamshire also ranked highly in the category with Wigwam Holiday Orchard Stable in Collingham, near Newark, announced as the winner of the East Midlands category. The small, six wigwam site sits within a 23-acre equestrian centre. Some have hot tubs and there is a fire pit on patios.
The best couple campsite nationally was Wold Meadow in East Yorkshire. However, another strong contender in this category was adults-only site Oxton Hill Hideaway in Nottinghamshire, which took the runner up prize for the East Midlands.
The best family campsite award nationally went to winner Tyn-yr-Onnen Farm and Campsite, Gwynedd. Set in the stunning Snowdonia National Park, the site is on a farm and includes a play area for the kids and animals to meet. One of the three prize winners in the East Midlands region for this award was Nottinghamshire site, Silverhill Woodland Retreats in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Billing itself as "peaceful" and "with plenty of space for families and couples to spread out", the site has "super serviced pitches" for campers and tourers, as well as safari tents and log cabins "for those wanting something a little extra".
