Best blankets for winter to stay cosy: Fleece, wool and faux fur options to beat the cold

As the the weather becomes increasingly frightful, it becomes abundantly clear that cosy season is upon us.

Collect your stash of hot water bottles, stock up on instant hot chocolate and cancel all your evening plans for the foreseeable future – when it’s cold, there’s only one thing any of us want to do, and it’s snuggling up on the sofa with our favourite blanket and the entire Harry Potter boxset on repeat.

Chances are, you’ve got a raggedy old fleece blanket that you’ve been using for as many winters as you can remember. It’s been washed enough times that the fleece feels more like a towelling material, and it’s likely got some strange, dried stains dotted like a gloopy constellation from TV dinners gone by.

We understand the sentimental value, and we’re not necessarily saying you should throw said blanket away, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a dedicated sofa blanket that actually covers your feet? A blanket that you won’t have to stuff into the depths of the ottoman as soon as the doorbell rings?

Owning a chic throw to hang across your sofa is a hallmark of true adulthood. While incredibly stylish, nobody said a classic throw blanket can’t be incredibly plush and ultra-soft. We’re talking about the kind of piece that sends you into an afternoon doze so deep that you wake up wondering what year it is.

We’ve rounded up a selection of the best and cosiest blankets that will last you for many more winters to come.
