Best bets for York races on Wednesday from Value Scope tipster Steve Jones

There's a Damm good bet in the opening race of York’s fabulous Sky Bet Ebor Festival.

MONDAMMEJ (1.50) was a little unlucky when fifth behind Copper Knight in this race 12 months ago. He’s higher in the weights this time but that’s only because he’s won four races since then and he’s been running with credit in higher grades this season.

His disappointing effort at this track last month isn’t a true reflection of his ability as he had a tricky draw and his hold-up style wasn’t suited by that 6f contest.

This slightly shorter distance suits him better and he will almost certainly get the lightning-fast early pace he thrives on. Have 2pts each-way at 16-1. Several bookies are paying out on six places and sponsors Sky Bet are stretching to seven.

ZOFFEE (4.10) was travelling all over the field when he cruised into contention at Glorious Goodwood.

He faded into seventh behind Mast Milliner but that was purely down to a lack of stamina over that 2m4f distance. The return to the 2m trip of his Northumberland Vase victory at Newcastle in June will be ideal and he is still fairly unexposed as a Flat stayer. Have 2pts to win at 7-1.

Copper Knight (centre, blue colours) won the 2021 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap (PA)

It might pay to forgive ATTAGIRL (4.45) for some lacklustre performances this season. She has found life tough in Listed and Group races and she has pulled a little too hard for her own good.

The ability is still there, I’m sure, and she would have a cracking chance on her win at this meeting last year. She saw off useful sprinters Caturra and Mitbaahy in that Listed sprint and this sharp track might just be the key to her.

Her trainer Karl Burke has given her a two-month break, so there are reasons to expect her to bounce back to form. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Most bookies are paying out on five places with Sky Bet going six.

ROGUE SPIRIT (5.20) has shown plenty of ability in five runs. He finished third in the 5f Super Sprint at Newbury last month before getting run out of things close home on his first try over 6f at Chester.

The winner, Tostado, continually forced him wide in that conditions race and he might well appreciate being ridden more patiently over this trip. It’s interesting that his trainer Tom Clover has booked talented apprentice Connor Planas for the ride and he takes off a valuable 7lbs. Have 1pt each-way at 14-1. Several bookies are paying six places.
