Bernd Leno misses Arsenal trip to Wolves after testing positive for Covid-19

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has tested positive for Covid-19.

The news was announced before Arsenal’s game against Wolves on Thursday night, with Arthur Okonkwo named on the bench instead.

Arsenal had Covid-19 issues at the start of the season, prior to their opening game with Brentford.

They also, like other clubs, had to combat the virus during December and January, when the Omicron variant was increasing infection rates.

Arsenal were also without Takehiro Tomiyasu for the trip to Wolves, with Cedric Soares starting in his place at right-back.

Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka were back from bans to partner up in midfield, while Mohamed Elneny and Nicolas Pepe were named on the bench following their Africa Cup of Nations stints.

Ahead of the game, Mikel Arteta told BT Sport that both of his returning starters were key to his plans. He said: “They both have the right qualities, the leadership, maturity, experience and they are vital in the way we play.”
