Bernd Leno injury: Arsenal goalkeeper leaves stadium on crutches after stretchered off against Brighton

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno left the Amex Stadium on crutches after a suffering a potentially serious injury against Brigton.

Leno was carried off on a stretcher shortly before half-time having been left writhing in agony after falling following a nudge from Neal Maupay.

The goalkeeper shouted angrily at Maupay as he was taken from the field. After the game, Maupay said: "I just went for the ball. I am that type of player - I don't want to stop until the referee blows the whistle.

"I never meant the injury, I apologised at half-time to their staff and their manager.

"He [Mikel Arteta] told me it is football, he saw the video and he knows I did not mean to hurt him. I wish him a speedy recovery."

Leno was spotted leaving the stadium on crutches after Maupay had scored the winner for the hosts in the 95th minute. It a second defeat from two since the season restarted.
