Berlin's zoo is currently abuzz with excitement as they celebrate the remarkable 67th birthday of Fatou, the oldest gorilla residing at the zoo. Born in 1957, Fatou has been a beloved member of the zoo since 1959 when she arrived in what was then West Berlin.

As the zoo prepares for her official birthday on Saturday, keepers treated Fatou to a special feast of fruits and vegetables, ensuring she enjoyed her special day. Vet Andre Schüle shared that Fatou holds the title of the oldest gorilla in any zoo, and it is believed that she may also be the oldest gorilla in the wild, where animals typically have shorter lifespans.

Despite her advanced age, Fatou continues to live comfortably in her own enclosure, choosing to maintain a bit of distance from the other gorillas at the zoo. Her longevity and vitality have made her a cherished resident, especially after the recent passing of Ingo the flamingo earlier this year. Ingo, who had been a part of the zoo since 1955, was believed to be at least 75 years old, further highlighting the exceptional care and environment provided by the zoo for its animal inhabitants.
