Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: utter perfection in cloud form

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress.

When it comes to maintaining a solid sleep routine, owning one of the best mattresses is incredibly important. There are a lot of factors that contribute to good quality sleep, but the surface in which we sleep on is probably the most significant. For that reason, it's our job to recommend the best models currently on the market, and that requires a lot of research.

Over the past six weeks, I've been the reviewing the Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress. It's one of the brand's more recent mattresses, and has received a whole bunch of five stars across the board. It's also keenly priced compared to similar models on the market, and for this reason, I couldn't wait to try it out.

Keep reading to find out my thoughts on the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, and whether it lives up to its expectations. If you couldn't tell already, there's no denying that I was very impressed.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: price and availability

The Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress comes in five different sizes (single, small double, double, king and super king) and is available to buy at Bensons for Beds. There are also two firmness levels to choose from, bringing different options to those looking for a certain comfort. I've personally been reviewing the double in a medium firmness, which has an RRP of £899.99.

Depending on the size, the mattress ranges in cost from £749.99 to £1,249.99. However, Bensons for Beds are currently holding a spring sale at the time of writing this, which knocks up to £150 off the RRP. Take a look at the reduced price of the double:

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: unboxing and set up

The Bensons for Beds delivery process was smooth sailing, and it arrived around seven days after the order was made. The company was able to provide an exact day and two hour time slot for the delivery, which made things so much easier. It arrived in a large van and was carried to my bedroom by two charming delivery men. This was a relief because I could see how heavy it was, so I was very grateful!

The mattress was delivered encased in plastic wrapping, and came exactly how it is. The delivery men even took the packaging away with them, and I know there was a mattress recycling option available as well.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: design and features

The Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress is incredibly comfortable, and there are a lot of features contributing to how luxurious it is. It has a combination of different sized pocket springs, including 2000 mini and 1050 that are full height, which all adapt individually to body movement. This means the mattress is designed to absorb motion, ensuring a disturbance free sleep to those with a partner who tosses and turns during the night.

It also features an exclusive Sensaform 7 Zone Pressure Relieving AIR Memory Foam, designed to deliver superior support and pressure relief. This Foam layer is about 6cm in height, which explains why the mattress is so large. When it comes to mattress height, some people love their mattress to be elevated, whilst others prefer being closer to the ground. I personally love a tall mattress, even if I do feel like an extra in The Princess and the Pea.

With breathable AIR channels, the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress has a strong level of breathability, providing a cooler sleep surface than most other standard mattresses. The time of year meant this wasn't something I could fully test out, but I did try going to bed in fluffy pyjamas one night and can confirm that no overheating took place. The mattress is also made from temperature regulating materials, also helping to keep things cool and rehydrate the skin when sleeping.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: performance

From the very first night I slept on the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, I was shocked at how little it took for my quality of sleep to improve. As a wellness reviewer, I'm constantly trying out the best mattresses, best duvets and best pillows, and as lovely as that sounds, it's not great when attempting to stick to a solid sleep routine.

I'd been struggling with my sleep for about two weeks before trying out the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, so it was going to be the ultimate test to see if it would improve things for me. I noticed immediately how comfortable the mattress was, mostly due to its built-in memory foam layer. It bought a lovely height to the mattress, and was the perfect balance of firm and soft. I had gone for the medium firmness rating, so I was hoping that would be the case. However, I was still over the moon that the comfort was just right. Due to its top layer, the mattress also doesn't need to be turned, bringing a level of ease to maintaining it. This provides a really nice touch, especially as it's so heavy.

It does mean that a standard fitted sheet won't fit, so you'll have to purchase a few deep fitted sheets. I decided to buy The White Company Savoy Deep Fitted Sheet from our best sheet buying guide if you're interested.

The mattress also has these amazing grooves across its surface, which almost moulded to my body when lying down. Before the mattress arrived, I saw it was labelled as a memory foam mattress. I've tried out a few memory foam mattresses before, and despite enjoying the sinking-into-the-bed feeling when first climbing in, I always found it incredibly tough to get out in the mornings. The Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress doesn't have this, and it's firm enough to allow movement whilst remaining incredibly comfortable.

As mentioned, the time of year meant I wasn't able to try out the temperature regulating features as much as I'd like to have done, but the cooling sleep surface was definitely something I noticed. I didn't get overheated once, despite the fact I have a rather thick duvet.

Within a few nights, I found myself falling asleep quicker than usual and waking up less during the night. I hadn't changed anything about my evening routine and nothing had adjusted in terms of my stress levels, so I put this completely down to the mattress. This is the first time I'd had such a quick (and positive) response from a mattress, so I was over the moon.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: verdict

After just a few nights, I was thrilled with the Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress. Its incredible memory foam layer, thousands of pocket springs and temperature regulating materials all contributed to a strong improvement in my quality of sleep. It has the perfect balance between firm and comfortable, and I also found myself waking up less during the night. Its built-in foam layer does add extra height so a deep fitted sheet is needed. However, this is hardly an issue in the grand scheme of things, and I'd recommend this mattress to anyone looking to add a luxurious touch to their sleep.

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress review: alternatives to consider

If you're looking for a similar mattress to the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid is a great alternative to consider. It also has a super-soft top layer, with a firmer lower level to provide a solid level of support. It delivers impressive temperature regulation and also has quite a similar price point. In our DreamCloud mattress review, our tester found it comfier when lying on their back, but noted it's fine for side sleepers too.

Another alternative I'd recommend is the Sleepeezee Centurial 03. It's a little more expensive than the Slumberland, but has a bunch of very similar features. It has a plush pillow top layer which again makes the mattress very tall, but it's up there with one of the best I've tried.
