Wayne Bennett says form Dolphins No.1 Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is "in the Latrell Mitchell mould" as the two dazzling fullbacks prepare to light up Suncorp Stadium.
As Bennett prepared to coach against his former club South Sydney on Thursday night he also tipped Mitchell to one day shine as a five-eighth.
Tabuai-Fidow has scored a try in each of his six games for the Dolphins, a feat rugby league historian David Middleton said equals the 115-year-old premiership record for most consecutives tries scored at the start of a new club. Eastern Suburbs winger Horrie Miller did the same in 1908.
"He is in the Latrell Mitchell mould of good athletes," Bennett said of the man known as 'Hammer'.
"He has a pretty good motor on him, likes to compete and does it really well.
"Because of his fitness levels he can keep turning up.We make half a break and he seems to be able to get himself there."
"Latrell is a wonderful player," Bennett added of the Rabbitohs custodian he previously coached.
"We all know that. We all love watching him play.
"Hammer is in the same boat. They are different types of players but both wonderfully skilled and competitive."
Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou is also a fan.
"I love him, he's such an exciting talent," Demetriou said.
"His energy off the ball and his ability to pop up in spaces is as good as anyone in the game and Wayne has sprinkled some dust on him.
"(Wayne's) got him happy and he's looking to stamp his mark on the game."
Mitchell turned on a three-try masterclass in the 50-16 win over Canterbury last week and is hitting top form.
Bennett said Mitchell was "a great player".
"He can play in the centres, fullback and when push comes to shove I think a bit later in his life he might be able to play five-eighth but that is for another day," Bennett said.
The Dolphins announced the signing of 21-year-old utility Max Plath on a three-year deal after he previously had a train and trial at Brisbane and played with Broncos' feeder club Wynnum-Manly .
The son of Broncos' four-time premiership winner John Plath, he trained with the Dolphins on Wednesday and will provide cover in the halves, lock and hooker.
"He is a great young guy and plays good footy," Bennett said.
"He will bring a lot of energy and can play three or four positions. He is only young so he has lots to learn but he is going to be in the right place to learn that."
