Former Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist has signed a four-year deal with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a clutch of clubs in recent seasons after turning heads in the City of Discovery. But the shotstopper has chosen to commit his long-term future to Ange Postecoglou 's side. Free agent Siegrist will now get the chance to cement his place as Joe Hart's chief back-up as he duels with Scott Bain.
The former Aston Villa academy graduate will also earn a crack at Champions League football in his debut season at Parkhead. The former Swiss youth international was spotted in a Glasgow hotel on Tuesday before putting the finishing touches on his move to Celtic. Siegrist was adored by Dundee United supporters during four years as No.1 on Tayside. And he's hell-bent on making his big opportunity count now he has penned a long-term deal with Celtic.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: “It feels amazing, it’s a very proud feeling to be here, and I’m really, really excited. I can’t wait to get going and meet the staff, the players, and, ultimately play for this football club.
“I had a phone call from the manager, he hung up the phone and I think people just knew straight away that something good was happening. It was a very proud moment in my career,
"To be here and be representing the football team, the colours, the city and everything, it’s a hugely proud moment, and everything I’ve always wanted to be – at a top environment, at a top team and it simply can’t get any better than this."
Siegrist becomes the club's second signing of the summer after Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Loan hero Jota is closing in on a £6.5m switch and both Alfa Semedo and Alessandro Bernabei have been strongly linked with a switch to Parkhead.
