Benjamin Sesko's Newcastle United message after scoring vs Liverpool in pre-season friendly

Newcastle United target Benjamin Sesko was the standout performer for RB Salzburg as they defeated Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in a pre-season friendly in Austria. The Slovenian's agent was on Tyneside last week which sparked a frenzy of transfer speculation online.

It's no secret that the Magpies are looking to bolster their front line this summer, with concerns over Callum Wilson's injury woes and Chris Wood struggling to find the back of the net since arriving from Burnley. The public pursuit of Hugo Ekitike has been well documented and PSG have pipped the Toon to his signature.

Sesko is being tipped to follow in the footsteps of Erling Haaland - having followed a similar career path - but the young striker insists that those comparisons aren't added pressure. It's clear the youngster has faith in his own ability and that came to the fore in last night's win over the Reds.

The 19-year-old was not phased by the Champions League finalists and scored the only goal of the game in fine fashion. Sesko lead the line brilliantly for RB Salzburg and his ability to press high was particularly noteworthy.

He told RB Salzburg: "It's an incredible moment for me. Especially because I scored against what might be the best team in the world. And yes, it's an incredible moment for me.

"To be honest, I was close to tears of joy in the dressing room after the first half! It's a special moment to score against one of the biggest clubs in the world. I'm very happy, also with my team-mates. I still have so much energy and a good heart rate."

The youngster was like a kid in the playground for large spells of the game, bringing the ball down, taking players on and linking up with team-mates with ease. It was an impressive display from one of the hottest prospects in European football.

It's unclear whether the Magpies are looking to explore this avenue, with RB Salzburg stating that Sesko would remain their player for the upcoming season. Nonetheless, every player has a price and Newcastle's new found wealth mean's they have the financial ability to flex their muscles in the transfer market.

Eddie Howe's side are keen to avoid paying over the odds for players this summer, with a clear budget set out in front of them. However, is Sesko does continue to turn in performances of this standard, they may need to act fast to secure his signature.
