Benjamin Netanyahu decided to sacrifice hostages: Hamas

Jerusalem: Hours after Israel carried out air stikes in Gaza, Palestininan group Hamas has said Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to resume war was a 'decision to sacrifice its hostages'.

“Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to resume war is a decision to sacrifice the occupation’s prisoners and impose a death sentence on them," Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq said in a statement.

Israel has launched its heaviest strikes on Gaza since the ceasefire with Hamas began, killing at least 200 people and injuring dozens, Gaza’s health authority said.  

Benjamin Netanyahu said he ordered the strikes because of a lack of progress in talks to extend the ceasefire.

Hamas has accused the Israeli PM of using the fighting as a political “lifeboat" to distract from internal crises.
