According to police, the incident took place around 11 am, when the TMT bars erected for the construction of a pillar fell on their scooter. The pillar which was weighing several tonnes was reportedly 40 feet in height.
The mother-son due to immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, but the injuries were deep and due to the resultant blood loss, the victim succumbed to the injuries. "Both suffered head injuries, we tried our best to save them. There was a lot of blood loss already and also a fall in blood pressure," doctors who treated them said.
The condition of the husband of the woman and their other child, who got seriously injured in the accident is said to be stable.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai affirmed that the reason of the pillar collapse will be investigated.
"I just got to know about it, we will get it investigated... we will ascertain the reason for the collapse of the pillar and provide compensation," Karnataka Chief Minister said, and also assured adequate compensation to the victims.
The police officials informed that a case has been registered and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident.
At the time of the incident, many vehicles were plying on the road and a long traffic jam occurred at the site of the mishap.
